Did any earthquake take place at the time of the Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)?

Did any earthquake take place at the time of the Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)?.

Praise be to Allaah.

There is no proof in the books of Sunnah and reports with
an uninterrupted, saheeh isnaad, to suggest that there was any earthquake
in Madeenah at the time of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be
upon him). The only reports that speak of that have da‘eef, mursal isnaads
(i.e., they are weak). There follows further explanation:

Firstly:

It was narrated that Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Malik ibn Marwaan
said: The ground shook at the time of the Messenger of Allah (blessings and
peace of Allah be upon him) and he put his hand on it then he said: “Be
still, for it is not yet time for that.” Then he turned to face his
Companions and said: “Your Lord is asking you to seek forgiveness, so seek
forgiveness.” Narrated by Ibn Abi’l-Dunya in al-‘Uqoobaat (no. 18). :
‘Abd-Allaah told us, ‘Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Ibraaheem told me, Abu Maryam
informed us, al-‘Attaar ibn Khaalid al-Harami informed us, Muhammad ibn ‘Abd
al-Malik ibn Marwaan told me.

This isnaad is da‘eef (weak) and has a number of faults,
including:

1.

It is a mu‘dal mursal report. Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Malik ibn
Marwaan died in 266 AH, so how he could tell of something that happened at
the time of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) which no
one else narrated?

2.

al-‘Attaar ibn Khaalid al-Harami - I did not find any
biography of him.

Secondly:

It was narrated that Shahr ibn Hawshab said: “There was an
earthquake in Madeenah at the time of the Prophet (blessings and peace of
Allah be upon him) and he said: “Your Lord is asking you to seek
forgiveness, so seek forgiveness.”

Narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah in al-Musannaf (2/357). He
said: Hafs told us, from Layth, from Shahr.

This isnaad is da‘eef and has a number of faults:

1.

It is mursal. Shahr ibn Hawshab died in 112 AH, and did not
witness the time of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him).

2.

Moreover he (Shahr ibn Hawshab) is da‘eef (weak) in and of
himself, according to some scholars. Shu‘bah said: I do not pay any
attention to his reports. Al-Nasaa’i said: He is not strong. Ibn Hibbaan
said: He is one of those who narrated from trustworthy narrators problematic
reports. al-Bayhaqi said: He is da‘eef. Others regarded him as trustworthy.
Hence al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar said concerning him: He is sadooq but he narrates
many mursal reports and is confused. See Tahdheeb al-Tahdheeb, 4/371

3.

Layth ibn Abi Sulaym - he is confused a great deal and we
cannot be certain about his hadeeth, so he was rejected. See Tahdheeb
al-Tahdheeb, 8/468

Hence al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar said in al-Talkhees al-Habeer
(2/222): This is mursal da‘eef. End quote.

This report was also narrated from Ibn Mas‘ood (may Allah be
pleased with him), as reported in Tafseer al-Tabari (17/478): Bishr
narrated to us, Yazeed narrated to us, Sa‘eed narrated to us, from Qataadah,
that he said: “And We sent not the signs except to warn, and to make them
afraid (of destruction)” [al-Isra’17:59]. Allah causes people to fear Him by
whatever signs He wills, so that they might learn a lesson or be reminded or
come back (to Him). It was said to us that the ground shook in Kufah at the
time of Ibn Mas‘ood, and he said: O people, your Lord is asking you to seek
forgiveness, so seek forgiveness.

To sum up, there is no proof that an earthquake took place at
the time of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him); rather
it happened after his time, at the time of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allah
be pleased with him). That was narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah in al-Musannaf
(2/358) and by others from Naafi‘ from Safiyyah who said: The earth shook at
the time of ‘Umar, and he addressed the people and said: “If it happens
again, I shall definitely abandon you and leave.” That was mentioned by Ibn
al-Jawzi in al-Muntazam, among the events of the year 20 AH.

And Allah knows best.

Did Yoosuf (peace be upon him) marry the wife of al-‘Azeez in the end?

Did ALLAAH's prophet YUSUF(AS) later marry the same woman who had tried seducing/tempting him, please support with sources if yes!?.

Praise be to Allaah.

There is no report in the Holy Qur’aan or the Sunnah of the
Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) to prove or disprove
that Yoosuf (peace be upon him) married the wife of al-‘Azeez, whose name
was said by some to be Ra‘eel and by others to be Zulaykha; al-Haafiz Ibn
Katheer suggested that Zulaykha was her title.

There is a report about Yoosuf (peace be upon him) marrying
Ra‘eel that was narrated from a well-known imam of seerah and history,
Muhammad ibn Ishaaq (may Allah have mercy on him) who said:

With regard to Yoosuf saying to the King,
“Set me over the store‑houses of the land; I will indeed
guard them with full knowledge” [Yoosuf 12:55],
the king said: I will do that. So he appointed him instead of Itfeer and
dismissed Itfeer from his post. Allah says: “Thus did We give full
authority to Yoosuf (Joseph) in the land, to take possession therein, when
or where he likes…” [Yoosuf 12:56].

He said: It was mentioned to me – and Allah knows best – that
Itfeer died during those nights and that the King al-Rayyaan ibn al-Waleed
gave Itfeer’s wife, Ra‘eel, to Yoosuf in marriage, and when she entered upon
him he said: Is this not better than what you wanted? And they claimed that
she said: O Siddeeq, do not blame me, for I was a woman who was, as you see,
beautiful and enjoying a life of luxury, and my husband could not have
intimate relations with women, and you are as Allah made you, very handsome,
and I could not help myself.

They claimed that he found her a virgin and he had
intercourse with her and she bore him two sons: Afra’eem ibn Yoosuf and
Maysha ibn Yoosuf. The son of Afra’eem was Noon, the father of Yoosha‘ ibn
Noon, and Rahmah the wife of Ayyoob (peace be upon him). End quote.

Narrated by Ibn Abi Haatim in al-Tafseer, 7/2161;
al-Tabari in Jaami‘ al-Bayaan, 16/151.

A similar report was narrated from Zayd ibn Aslam, the great
Taabi‘i, and from Wahb ibn Munabbih, from the Israa’eeliyyaat
(reports from Jewish sources).

That was also narrated by al-Suyooti in al-Durr
al-Manthoor, 4/553

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

Chapter 27: One who gives up his beloved to avoid a haraam
relationship and then was enabled to be with his beloved in a halaal way, or
Allah compensated him with some one better, as Yoosuf al-Siddeeq avoided the
wife of al-‘Azeez for the sake of Allah, and chose prison over immoral
action, and Allah compensated him by giving him full authority in the land
to take possession therein when or where he wanted, and the woman came to
him humbly asking for a halaal relationship, so he married her and when he
entered upon her he said: This is better than what you wanted.

Think about how Allah, may He be glorified and exalted,
rewarded him for the hardship of prison and gave him full authority in the
land to take possession therein when or where he wanted, and subdued for him
the wife of al-‘Azeez, and she and the other women attested to his
innocence. This is what Allah ordained for His slaves in the past and at
present until the Day of Resurrection.

End quote from Rawdat al-Muhibbeen, p. 445

This does not mean that this story is definitively true;
rather it seems that it was taken from the People of the Book, and we have
been commanded not to believe them and not to disbelieve them either. The
Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Do not believe the
People of the Book and do not disbelieve them. Say: We believe in that which
has been revealed to us and revealed to you, our God and your God is One,
and we submit to Him.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 4485; classed as saheeh by
al-Albaani in Silsilat al-Ahaadeeth al-Saheehah, 422

And Allah knows best.

Nothing has been proven about the place where Adam came down to earth

Is it true that Adam (peace be upon him) came down in India and that Hawwa’ came down in Jeddah?.

Praise be to Allaah.

What is proven definitively in the Holy Qur'aan is that
Adam and Hawwa’ (peace be upon them) came down from Paradise to earth
after they ate from the tree.

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Then the Shaytaan (Satan) made them slip therefrom (the
Paradise), and got them out from that in which they were. We said: ‘Get you
down, all, with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be a dwelling place
for you and an enjoyment for a time’”

[al-Baqarah 2:36].

With regard to the place where they came down on earth, the
Qur'aan does not say anything about it, and there is no saheeh, marfoo‘
hadeeth in the Sunnah of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon
him) which explains that, although there are some da‘eef (weak) hadeeths,
such as the hadeeth that says: “Adam came down in India and felt lonely…”.
This was narrated by Ibn ‘Asaakir in Tareekh Dimashq (7/437) and
classed as da‘eef by Shaykh al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Da‘eefah,
no. 403. There are also other hadeeths which speak of this matter, but their
isnaads are very weak.

The only saheeh reports about this matter are the words of
some of the salaf, most of which are taken from the knowledge of the people
of the Book which were transmitted during their time. Such reports cannot be
relied upon or trusted, and it is not permissible to believe in what they
mention of things concerning which our religion is silent. Rather they may
be narrated for the purpose of story-telling only.

Despite that, the scholarly opinions concerning this matter
differ.

Some of them said: Adam came down in India and Hawwa’ came
down in Jeddah.

Some of them said that they both came down in India.

Some of them said that Adam came down in a land between
Makkah and al-Taa’if called Dahna.

Some of them said that Adam came down on al-Safa and Hawwa’
came down on al-Marwah.

Al-Haafiz Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

Al-Saddi said: Allah said (interpretation of the meaning):
“Get you down, all” [al-Baqarah 2:36].
So they came down; Adam came down in India and the Black Stone and a handful
of leaves from Paradise came down with him, and he scattered them in India,
and a perfume tree grew, which is the origin of what comes from India of
perfume from the handful of leaves that Adam brought down. Adam only took
them because of his sorrow at leaving Paradise when he was expelled from
it.

‘Imraan ibn ‘Uyaynah said, (narrating) from ‘Ata’ ibn
al-Saa’ib, from Sa‘eed ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbaas, who said: Adam came
down from Paradise in Dahna, in the land of India.

Ibn Abi Haatim said: Abu Zar‘ah told us: Uthmaan ibn Abi
Shaybah told us: Jareer told us: from ‘Ata’, from Sa‘eed, from Ibn ‘Abbaas
who said: Adam (peace be upon him) came down in a land called Dahna, between
Makkah and al-Taa’if.

It was narrated that al-Hasan al-Basri said: Adam came down
in India and Hawwa’ in Jeddah, and Iblees in Dastumeesaan a few miles from
Basrah, and the serpent came down in Asbahaan. This was narrated by Ibn Abi
Haatim.

Ibn Abi Haatim said: Muhamamd ibn ‘Ammaar ibn al-Haarith told
us: Muhammad ibn Sa‘eed ibn Saabiq told us: ‘Amr ibn Abi Qays told us, from
Ibn ‘Adiyy, from Ibn ‘Umar, who said: Adam came down on al-Safa and Hawwa’
on al-Marwah. End quote.

Tafseer al-Qur’aan al-‘Azeem,
1/237

But all of these are words for which there is no evidence.

And Allah knows best.

He is homosexual and is afraid to get married

I proposed to a girl, she and her family accepted me, and there is only 3 months left for consummation. I am now confused because I am homosexual, I am inclined sexually to men more than women. No one knows this. Do I have to keep this secret forever, or should I tell this girl about it? I am very confused; I feel that I am deceiving her. She is a very good girl and deserves someone who is much better than me. If I marry her, she will definitely find out my secret one day, this may have very bad consequences; especially if we have children by then. I do not want to be unfair to anyone. We homosexuals are disgraced in Islam and have very limited options, we cannot marry like normal people, what is our fault? And what should we do? What is the wisdom behind us being created homosexuals? If you care about our matter and suffering tell us what shall we do?.

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

Homosexuality is a severe
illness and a grave calamity. If it is accompanied by actually committing
immoral actions, then it is even worse, because of the sin and abhorrent
nature of those immoral actions and their bad consequences in this world and
in the Hereafter.

Hence you should focus on
how to treat this perversion and save yourself from this destructive evil,
more than focusing on whether to conceal it from your fiancée or disclose it
to her.

You should realize that
there are causes for this calamity, and these causes may be due to what the
person affected has done. The one who wants to save himself from this
situation should examine these causes and rid himself of them, and do what
we advise, otherwise he is approving of and accepting his condition and he
does not want to change for the better. Among the causes which may be due to
his own actions are the following:

1.

Weakness of faith and
remoteness of the heart from love of Allaah, and a lack of fear of His
punishment.

2.

Looking freely at beardless
youths, and enjoying their beauty and form.

This is the first step
towards sin for those who are affected by this disease. Allaah has enjoined
lowering the gaze and refraining from looking at haraam things, and the
Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) has enjoined
likewise. When he stopped following this command and began to do that which
is forbidden, Iblees was able to shoot his poisoned arrow into his heart,
and thus destroy him.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah
have mercy on him) said: Looking is the origin of most of the problems that
befall man, because looking generates thoughts, then thoughts generate
ideas, and ideas generate desires, and desires generate will, which then
becomes stronger and becomes firm resolve, in which case the deed will
inevitably be done unless there is something to prevent it. Hence it was
said that patience in lowering the gaze is easier than patience in bearing
the pain that comes afterwards. End quote from al-Jawaab al-Kaafi (p.
106).

Hence the scholars are
unanimously agreed that it is haraam to look at beardless youths, and some
of them regard that as more haraam than looking at women.

Imam al-Nawawi (may Allaah
have mercy on him) said: Similarly the scholars forbade a man to look at the
face of a beardless youth if he is handsome, whether with or without desire,
and whether it is free of fitnah (temptation) or there is the fear thereof.
This is the correct view which was favoured by the scholars. This was stated
by al-Shaafa’i and the prominent scholars of his madhhab (may Allaah have
mercy on them). The evidence for this is that a beardless youth is, in some
ways, like a woman; he may be desired as a woman is desired, and his form
may be beautiful like that of a woman, and many of them may be more
beautiful than many women. The prohibition applies more to them for another
reason, which is that in their case there may result from attachment to them
types of evil that do not occur in the case of women. End quote.

Sharh Muslim
(4/31).

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn
Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Looking at the face of a
beardless youth with desire is like looking as the face of a mahram or a
non-mahram woman with desire, whether the desire is desire for intercourse
or the desire to derive pleasure from looking. If he looks at his mother,
sister or daughter with pleasure derived from looking like the pleasure
derived from looking at a non-mahram woman, then it is known to everyone
that this is haraam. The same applies to looking at the face of a beardless
youth, according to scholarly consensus. End quote.

Majmoo’ al-Fataawa
(15/413) and (21/245).

And he (may Allaah have
mercy on him) also said:

The one who looks
repeatedly at a beardless youth and the like, or persists in that, and says
“I am not looking with desire” is lying, because if he has no need to look,
then he is only looking because of the pleasure that he feels in his heart
as a result. As for an accidental glance, it is forgiven, if he averts his
gaze.

Majmoo’ al-Fataawa
(15/419) and (21/251).

The kind of looking with
which these sick people are afflicted includes what they watch on satellite
channels and what they see in newspapers and magazines, and on websites, of
pictures of children and beardless young men, and this is what provokes them
to commit immoral actions.

3 – Falling short with
regard to obligatory and naafil acts of worship

If the person who is
afflicted with this problem prays on time, fulfilling the conditions and
obligatory parts of prayer, that will be a deterrent that keeps him from
falling into evil and immoral ways. Allaah says (interpretation of the
meaning):

“Verily, As‑Salaah (the
prayer) prevents from Al‑Fahsha’ (i.e. great sins of every kind, unlawful
sexual intercourse) and Al‑Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism, and every
kind of evil wicked deed)”

[al-‘Ankaboot 29:45]

So how about if he
regularly performs sunnah and naafil prayers?

4 – Forsaking the Qur’aan
and failing to read books about the lives of righteous men and the imams

The Book of Allaah contains
guidance, light and healing; it is the best protection for the Muslim
against falling into sin and it is the best remedy for the one who does fall
into sin.

If he reads books about the
imams and biographies of the scholars, he can take them as an example and
become familiar with their stories and rise above immorality and evil.

5 – Falling short in
seeking knowledge

Knowledge is light, through
which one may know what is halaal and do it, and what is haraam and avoid
it. Through it he may come to know his Lord, may He be exalted, and His
names, attributes and deeds. That will generate in his heart a sense of
shyness before his Lord and shyness before His angels, so that he will not
want to commit evil and immoral actions. Through knowledge he will come to
know the state of sinners and the punishment that Allaah has prepared for
them.

6 – A lot of spare time in
the lives of those who have this problem

If they kept themselves
busy with acts of worship, sport, permissible actions and seeking knowledge,
they would not have time to spend in thinking of haraam things, let alone
doing them.

7 – Making friends and
keeping company with bad people

The Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) likened the bad friend to one who works the
bellows: he will either burn his companion’s clothes or he will notice a bad
smell coming from him.

8 – Not getting married

Allaah has created natural
desires in man, and He has made the outlet for that in women. The
permissible way to do that is marriage. The one who goes against his natural
state (fitrah) and diverts that desire towards other males like him, is even
lower than the animals, for the animals that Allaah has created are in front
of us, and do we ever see any male mounting another male or looking at him
with desire? Look at this and compare it with the one who looks at beardless
youths of his own gender with desire, and the one who commits immoral
actions with them, and that even makes him refrain from marrying women!

See the answer to question
no. 20068 for information on ways
to escape and treat this disease.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said, describing the remedy for
haraam love and infatuation: The remedy for this fatal disease is to
understand that what has befallen him of this disease that is contrary to
Tawheed is due to his ignorance and the negligence of his heart towards
Allaah. He must acknowledge the Oneness of his Lord (Tawheed) and His laws
and verses first of all, then he should do acts of worship, both inward and
outward, which will distract his heart from always thinking of this thing,
turn to Him a great deal and beseech Allaah to take this away from him. He
should focus his heart on Him. There is no better remedy for it than
sincerity towards Allaah. This is the remedy that Allaah mentioned in His
Book when He said (interpretation of the meaning):
“Thus it was, that We might turn away
from him evil and illegal sexual intercourse. Surely, he was one of Our
chosen, (guided) slaves”
[Yoosuf 12:24].

Allaah tells us that He
diverted the evil of infatuation and immoral actions away from him because
of his sincerity, because if the heart is sincere and one’s actions are
sincerely for the sake of Allaah alone, then the love of images cannot take
hold of his heart; they can only take hold of an empty heart, as the poet
said:

Her love came into my heart
before I had any idea of what love is,

And it found my heart
vacant, thus it too hold of it.

End quote from al-Jawaab
al-Kaafi (p. 150, 151).

Secondly:

One of the gravest mistakes
is to think that there is no remedy for this disease, and that the
homosexual can never become straight. If that were the case, then Allaah
would not have told the people of Loot to repent, and the Prophet of Allaah
Loot (peace be upon him) would not have called them to give up their
perversion. Allaah is the Creator of man, and He knows what can be changed
in man and what cannot, so do not pay any attention to any claim that is
contrary to that.

How many homosexuals have
turned to their Lord and repented, and their repentance has been accepted
and they have changed their ways, and their haraam desires have disappeared.
Loot (peace be upon him) called on his people to marry, because that is an
effective remedy, in which the one who is affected by this thing can direct
his desires in the permissible manner.

Thirdly:

From the above it is clear
that what the homosexual falls into of being attached to images of beardless
youths, or evil immoral actions, is the result of his deeds (and he is to
blame). He is required to give it up, and he can rid himself of that. If we
assume that he feels attracted to men, then he must resist that and avoid
the causes that may lead to him falling into haraam, just as a normal man is
naturally attracted to women, but he is required to lower his gaze and not
be alone with a woman, and he must avoid all the means that lead to fitnah
(temptation).

Fourthly:

As for your saying “what
should we do?”, we have explained to you what you should do. You should fear
Allaah and respect Him so much that you do not want Him to see you in the
bad situation which He dislikes for you, and for which He gives people a
painful punishment.

But what we are really
shocked by is what you say after that: “Is it our fault that we are like
that? What is the wisdom behind a man being created like this?”

Yes, O slave of Allaah, the
blame and consequences, the threat and punishment, all befall the one who
commits the sin; he deserves it because of the evil acts that he has done
and what his hands have earned.

Allaah says (interpretation
of the meaning):

“And among men is he who
disputes about Allaah, without knowledge or guidance, or a Book giving light
(from Allaah),

9. Bending his neck in
pride (far astray from the path of Allaah), and leading (others) too (far)
astray from the path of Allaah. For him there is disgrace in this worldly
life, and on the Day of Resurrection We shall make him taste the torment of
burning (Fire).

10. That is because of
what your hands have sent forth, and verily, Allaah is not unjust to (His)
slaves”

[al-Hajj 22:8-10]

Allaah also says
(interpretation of the meaning):

“And those who dispute
concerning Allaah (His religion of Islamic Monotheism with which Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وسلم has been sent), after
it has been accepted (by the people), of no use is their dispute before
their Lord and on them is wrath, and for them will be a severe torment”

[al-Shoora 42:16]

Shaykh al-Sa’di said (may
Allaah have mercy on him): Here Allaah tells us that “those who dispute
concerning Allaah”, with false proofs and contradictory specious
arguments, “after it has been accepted (by the people)” i.e., after
the people of insight and reason have responded to Allaah, because of the
definitive signs and clear proof that He has made clear to them, therefore
these people who dispute the truth after it has been made clear to them, “of
no use is their dispute” i.e., it is false and rejected “before their
Lord” because it implies rejection of the truth, and everything that is
contrary to the truth is false.

“and on them is wrath”
because of their disobedience and their turning away from the proof of
Allaah and their rejecting it. “and for them will be a severe torment”
which is the effect of Allaah’s wrath on them. This is the punishment of
everyone who contests the truth with falsehood. End quote.

Allaah says of His lying
enemies (interpretation of the meaning):

“And when they commit a
Faahisha (evil deed, going round the Ka‘bah in naked state, every kind of
unlawful sexual intercourse), they say: ‘We found our fathers doing it, and
Allaah has commanded it on us.’ Say: ‘Nay, Allaah never commands Faahisha.
Do you say of Allaah what you know not?’

29. Say (O Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وسلم): My Lord has
commanded justice and (said) that you should face Him only (i.e. worship
none but Allaah and face the Qiblah, i.e. the Ka‘bah at Makkah during
prayers) in each and every place of worship, in prayers (and not to face
other false deities and idols), and invoke Him only making your religion
sincere to Him (by not joining in worship any partner with Him and with the
intention that you are doing your deeds for Allaah’s sake only). As He
brought you (into being) in the beginning, so shall you be brought into
being [on the Day of Resurrection in two groups, one as a blessed one
(believers), and the other as a wretched one (disbelievers)].

30. A group He has
guided, and a group deserved to be in error; (because) surely, they took the
Shayaateen (devils) as Awliyaa’ (protectors and helpers) instead of Allaah,
and think that they are guided”

[al-A’raaf 7:28-30].

Shaykh al-Sa’di (may Allaah
have mercy on him) said: Here Allaah says, describing the evil state of the
mushrikeen who commit sins, and claim that Allaah commanded them to do them:
“And when they commit a Faahisha (evil deed)” meaning everything that
is regarded as abhorrent and repugnant, which includes their
circumambulating the Ka’bah naked. “they say: ‘We found our fathers doing
it” they spoke the truth concerning that. “and Allaah has commanded
it on us” they were lying concerning that, hence Allaah rejected this
attribution of theirs and said: “Say: ‘Nay, Allaah never commands
Faahisha (evil deeds)’” i.e., it is not befitting to His perfection and
wisdom to enjoin His slaves to commit evil deeds, whether it is what these
mushrikeen were doing or anything else. “Do you say of Allaah what you
know not?,” and what fabrication can be greater than that? End quote.

What you have said is what
the enemies of Allaah, the mushrikeen and those who disbelieve His
Messengers, say. They fall into sin, then they make excuses for it on the
basis of qadar (the divine decree), saying that Allaah created them like
that, or that He commanded them to do it; exalted be Allaah far above what
the wrongdoers say.

Hence let the adulterer,
thief and murderer say: What is my fault? Allaah created me like this. This
false argument ultimately invalidates all the divine laws, and invalidates
the commands and prohibitions, and gives people free rein, so that they
fornicate like donkeys, and soon some of them may commit evil actions in the
street, as will happen at the end of time, and as happens in some kaafir and
sinful countries!

Do you know that you are
the one who opened this door to yourself, but that Allaah has proof against
you, and you have no proof against Allaah?

So keep yourself busy with
closing the door to evil and corruption, before you become unable to close
it, instead of keeping yourself busy wondering about the one who made the
door and how come he did not keep it closed, as it seems that you do not
know the difference between the door and the wall!

If you want it all to be a
wall, with no door in it, and no lamp, then what is the point of
accountability, and what is the value of commands and prohibitions, halaal
and haraam, reward and punishment, Paradise and Hell?

To sum up our advice to
you, we advise you to hasten to get married, so that you can put your sperm
into that which is pure and halaal, and protect yourself against haraam
sex.

But, so that you will not
deceive the one who trusts you or betray that trust or transgress against
one who has not wronged you, it is essential that you begin first with
sincere repentance to Allaah from the sin of homosexuality that you have
fallen into, and strive to do all kinds of acts of obedience. Keep yourself
busy with Allaah and pleasing Him, then as soon as you feel that you have
started to follow the path of guidance, and you feel that you are going in
the right direction, then strengthen the motives of goodness and purity in
your heart by marrying one who will keep you chaste. But before starting to
treat the problem or feeling that you have repented sincerely, do not
transgress against anyone else and do not betray the one who has trusted
you.

We ask Allaah to heal you,
purify your heart, and keep you chaste.

And Allaah knows best.

She left her husband’s home, and her lover asked her to marry him when she was still married!

I am a 26 years old woman. I was divorced about one week ago, after I left my husband’s home a year before; I took my son who is two years old and stayed with my family. In the beginning of our love marriage I lived with him in his mother’s home. His mother started to interfere in everything in our life. He asked me to work and support him to pay off the loan he borrowed for our marriage. I found a job and helped him; my only condition was to live in an independent place alone far from his mother’s continuous interference. He promised me to do this. His mother was in control of everything at home; my husband was unable to object to anything otherwise she would ask him to leave. She works as well.

I lived with my husband and tried him for two years I found him to be another person different from who I loved; he was just masked before marriage. He started taking all my salary and gives me just daily expenses. Whenever he was in need he used to ask me to sell my gold for him, which I have done, so has he. He used to ask me to borrow from my family, which I did, in return he never gave me anything. I was deprived of everything. He used to say one sentence a lot to me: “you know our circumstances so be tolerant”. He used to hide his wallet in the car and say that I do not have the right to what he has or what he does not have. Problems started to get bigger and bigger, and I kept asking him to find a separate place for us to live.

He has a divorced sister, she works and sleeps in her work place which is a hotel located outside the city, when she used to come to visit us she used to stay up at night outside the home and returns every night after midnight. I did not like the whole situation and I had to tell my respectful husband: “what will the neighbors say about this home we live in, this is shameful” his answer was usually: “I will speak to them” I do not like this, after all he said to me: “these are our traditions, and I cannot leave my mother and sister and live far from them alone” as they are not Arabs.

I was hesitant to tell my family about my situation because they all objected to this marriage and refused it but I insisted on marrying him because I thought he is moral and kind. How blind was I! I told my family that I heard him speaking to his mother complaining about me and she told him to beat me and to take my son from me. Then I left him and went to my family. Two weeks later he came to my family’s home to ask why I left home. I did not tell him that I heard anything. And just asked him to buy us a separate place to live alone. He agreed. We went to see the home we were going to buy, then he changed his mind, this situation remained for two years during which he accused me of having a relationship with someone else, and that this other person is spoiling my mind, this happened because my husband saw me with a man who is a friend of my father taking me from my work place. I found him there by chance and my husband was standing in the street at my work area, I asked this man to take me home because I feared my husband might hurt me. After this he started to defame me and give me two options, whether to stay with him in his mother’s home or to sacrifice all my rights then he divorces me. I of course refused and insisted on divorce, I did not want a separate home anymore.

My husband brought two ‘disobedience cases’ against me, and then I asked for divorce through the court. The last five months I, by chance, spoke with the same man who took me by car from work, he is 14 years older than me. I told him about my story and what happened with me, he stood for me and taught me about life and people, and that there are matters one should not stand silent for them. He told me that accepting to marry my husband was a mistake from the beginning and that I was mistaken when I refused to listen to my family’s advice.

I became attracted to him, although I know that it is wrong. I feel guilty because I love him and he loves me, this was not planned. We met many times, sat and talked a lot and he asked me to marry him before I got divorced. I wish I can accept but I am afraid of the consequences. I fear Allah, I fear I made a mistake when I loved another man while I am still married, although I left my husband 15 months ago, I got divorced about two weeks ago.

Please guide me. Am I mistaken? Is what I did haram? I live in a conflict with myself, I am very confused. I do not want to disobey Allah or commit sins.

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

You have done a number of
things that are clearly and obviously contrary to sharee’ah, hence we are
surprised at the end of your letter where you say “I do not want to anger
Allaah or commit sins”! Whatever the case, this is the bad consequences and
effect of sin, which is loss of reason and dimming of its light that would
lead to the straight path.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah
have mercy on him) said, describing the effects of sin:

… Sin corrupts reason, for
reason is light, and sin inevitably extinguishes the light of reason. If its
light is extinguished it becomes weak and imperfect. One of the salaf said:
No one disobeys Allaah but his reason is lost. This is obvious, because if
his reason was present, it would have prevented him from committing sin when
he is under the full control of Allaah, may He be exalted, or how could he
commit sin openly when He is watching him, and he is enjoying His blessings
and His angels are bearing witness over him and watching him, and the
teachings of the Qur’aan forbid that and the implication of faith and the
remembrance of death and the Fire should restrain him. The good of this
world and the Hereafter that he misses out on because of sin is many times
greater than the pleasure he may get from it. Can anyone who takes lightly
all that we have mentioned above still have sound reason?

… If sins accumulate, then
a seal is placed on the sinner’s heart and he becomes one of the heedless,
as one of the salaf said concerning the words of Allaah (interpretation of
the meaning): “Nay! But on their hearts is the Raan (covering of sins and
evil deeds) which they used to earn” [al-Mutaffifeen 83:14] – he said:
This is sin after sin. Al-Hasan said: It is sin upon sin, until the heart
becomes blind. And someone else said: When their sins and acts of
disobedience become many, they encircle their hearts.

The basic principle
concerning that is that the heart is corroded (lit. rusts) by sin, so if sin
increases, the corrosion prevails until it becomes raan, then it prevails
until it becomes a seal, and the heart becomes covered and enveloped. If
that happens after he has been guided and had insight, then he will be
reversed and turned upside down. At that point his enemy takes over and
leads him wherever he wants.

Al-Jawaab al-Kaafi li
man sa’ala ‘an al-Dawa al-Shaafi (p. 39).

We are sorry to tell you
that each of the sins that you have committed led to another; they affected
your reason and your heart, and extinguished their light.

Secondly:

The things that you did
which go against sharee’ah are:

1.

The haraam relationship
which you formed with your first husband, before you married him. This is
clear from your saying that it was a love marriage, and from your going
against your family who refused to give you in marriage to him, and now you
are doing the same thing with another man when you are still married to the
first husband!

relationships, please see the answer to questions no.

2.

It seems that your job
involves mixing with strange men. If what we think is correct, then it is a
sin. If it is not mixed, or it is not in a haraam field such as banking or
insurance – then there is no sin on you.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah
have mercy on him) said:

There is no doubt that
enabling women to mix with men is the basis of all calamities and evils, and
it is one of the greatest causes of calamity that affects everybody, as well
as being one of the causes of corruption in public and private affairs.
Mixing of men with women is the cause of a great deal of immoral actions and
zina, and it is one of the causes of widespread death and ongoing plagues.

In the answer to question
no. 6666 there is important advice
to do with women working in a mixed environment.

3.

You left the marital home
without your husband’s permission, and this was based on something that you
heard from his mother and his complaints to her. This does not make it
permissible for you to leave the marital home without your husband’s
permission. You have the right to a separate home with your husband, but it
seems that you waived this right when you first married him and agreed to
stay with him in his mother’s house. It would have been better for you to
work out the agreement with him when you agreed to help him to bear his
living expenses and pay off his debt, and to oblige him to do so via the
shar’i court or good and knowledgeable people whom you appointed as
arbitrators between you. As for your actions and your leaving without his
permission, this is not permissible. Allaah forbade women who are revocably
divorced (first or second talaaq) to leave their houses after the divorce,
so how about married women? Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“O Prophet (صلى
الله عليه وسلم)! When you divorce women, divorce them at their ‘Iddah
(prescribed periods) and count (accurately) their ‘Iddah (periods). And fear
Allaah your Lord (O Muslims). And turn them not out of their (husband’s)
homes nor shall they (themselves) leave, except in case they are guilty of
some open illegal sexual intercourse. And those are the set limits of
Allaah. And whosoever transgresses the set limits of Allaah, then indeed he
has wronged himself. You (the one who divorces his wife) know not it may be
that Allaah will afterward bring some new thing to pass (i.e. to return her
back to you if that was the first or second divorce)”

[al-Talaaq 65:1]

4.

The worst and most
reprehensible of these actions that go against sharee’ah is your sinful
relationship with that evildoer who pretended that he was saving you from
worldly problems and presented himself in the guise of a wise advisor, but
in fact he was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

How could this evildoer
agree to meet you and talk with you, and sit with you and discuss with you,
and worst of all, he audaciously asked you to marry him when you were still
married to another man?! What is very strange is that you yourself say that
your husband himself was presenting himself falsely as a good man, and that
you were blind when you accepted him as a husband. Do you think that now you
are able to see? By Allaah, you are not able to see, and your blindness with
regard to your first husband was less serious than your blindness now. You
were not married when you formed a relationship with him, but now you are
married and you have formed a haraam relationship with that evildoer, who is
not content only to come between you and your husband, turn your heart
against him and make you hate the idea of going back to him, rather he has
added to that his request for you to marry him when you are still married to
another man.

What you have done is
haraam, beyond any shadow of a doubt. It is revolting and reprehensible even
to non-Muslims. No husband would want his wife to be in the situation you
are in. No wise person – let alone a Muslim who knows the rulings of
sharee’ah – would approve of your marrying this evildoer who has shown his
true colours and evil attitude before marriage. That will save you from
going though another bitter experience with him. Do you think that he will
forget how you betrayed your husband with him? Do you think that he will
trust you not to repeat what you did with him? Do not hesitate to cut off
all ties with him, for it is a haraam relationship on the one hand, and on
the other hand he is not fit to be a trusted husband when he has done such
haraam, abhorrent actions.

For information on the
qualities of a righteous husband, please see the answers to questions no.
5202 and
6942.

Thirdly:

We hope that your regret
and taking stock of yourself are a good sign that you have come back to the
truth and that your conscience which criticizes you for abhorrent actions
and for falling short in acts of obedience to Allaah has come back to life.

Beware of following the
footsteps of the shaytaan, for they lead to doom. Allaah says
(interpretation of the meaning):

“O you who believe!
Follow not the footsteps of Shaytaan (Satan). And whosoever follows the
footsteps of Shaytaan (Satan), then, verily, he commands Al‑Fahsha’ [i.e. to
commit indecency (illegal sexual intercourse)], and Al‑Munkar [disbelief and
polytheism (i.e. to do evil and wicked deeds; and to speak or to do what is
forbidden in Islam)]. And had it not been for the Grace of Allaah and His
Mercy on you, not one of you would ever have been pure from sins”

[al-Noor 24:21].

Do not ignore the
opportunity to regret and repent before there comes a Day when neither
dirhams nor dinars, neither close friends nor intercessors will benefit a
man, and he will bite at his hands in anguish, as Allaah says
(interpretation of the meaning):

“And (remember) the Day
when the Zaalim (wrongdoer, oppressor, polytheist) will bite at his hands,
he will say: ‘Oh! Would that I had taken a path with the Messenger (Muhammad
صلى الله عليه وسلم).

28. ‘Ah! Woe to me!
Would that I had never taken so‑and‑so as a Khalîl (an intimate friend)!

29. ‘He indeed led me
astray from the Reminder (this Qur’aan) after it had come to me. And
Shaytaan (Satan) is to man ever a deserter in the hour of need’”

[al-Furqaan 25:27-29].

In order to cleanse
yourself of sin and protect your religious commitment, faith and chastity,
strive to do the following:

1.

Pray regularly on time with
proper focus and humility before Allaah:

It was narrated from Abu
Hurayrah that he heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him) say: “What do you think, if there was a river by the
door of one of you and he bathed in it five times a day, would any speck of
dirt be left on him?” They said: Not a speck of dirt would be left on him.
He said: “That is the likeness of the five prayers, by means of which Allaah
erases sins.”

Narrated by al-Bukhaari
(505) and Muslim (667).

2.

Keeping company with
righteous women who adhere to obedience to Allaah.

It was narrated that Abu
Moosa al-Ash’ari (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of
Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The likeness
of a good companion and a bad companion is that of one who carries musk and
one who works the bellows. With the carrier of musk, either he will give you
some or you will buy some from him, or you will notice a good smell from
him; as for the one who works the bellows, either he will burn your clothes
or you will notice a bad smell from him.”

Narrated by al-Bukhaari
(1995) and Muslim (2628).

Imam al-Nawawi (may Allaah
have mercy on him) said: It points to the virtue of sitting with righteous,
good and honourable people, people of good attitude, awareness, knowledge
and manners, and indicates that it is not allowed to sit with evil people
and followers of innovation, those who backbite about people or who are
foul-mouthed and have nothing better to do, and other blameworthy things.
End quote.

Sharh Muslim,
16/178

3.

Not listening to songs,
music and haraam entertainment.

Allaah says (interpretation
of the meaning):

“And of mankind is he
who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing) to mislead (men) from the
path of Allaah without knowledge, and takes it (the path of Allaah, or the
Verses of the Qur’aan) by way of mockery. For such there will be a
humiliating torment (in the Hell‑fire).

7. And when Our Verses
(of the Qur’aan) are recited to such a one, he turns away in pride, as if he
heard them not — as if there were deafness in his ear. So announce to him a
painful torment”

[Luqmaan 31:6-7]

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah
have mercy on him) said:

Singers and those who
listen to them have a share of blame commensurate with the degree to which
they are distracted by songs from the Qur’aan. … This is made clear by the
fact that you will not find anyone who has an interest in songs and
listening to music but he will be somewhat misguided from the path of
guidance in terms of knowledge or action, and he is less eager to listen to
Qur’aan rather than songs, such that if he has the opportunity to listen
either to songs or to the Qur’aan, he will turn away from the latter to the
former, and listening to Qur’aan will be burdensome for him, and he may go
so far as to tell the reciter to be quiet and tell the singer to carry on,
and never have his fill of listening to songs.

Ighaathat al-Lahfaan
(1/240, 241).

Finally:

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan
(may Allaah preserve him) said:

The Muslim must repent from
sin and hasten to do so, in obedience to the command of Allaah, so as to
save himself from the punishment and wrath of Allaah. It is not permissible
for him to continue in sin or to delay repentance in order to obey his nafs
(self) or the shaytaan, or to wait until people criticize him. Rather he
must fear Allaah and not fear people. Even if they are committing sin it is
not permissible for him to follow their example, and he must also oblige his
family to repent, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“O you who believe! Ward
off yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and
stones”

[al-Tahreem 66:6].

He should not be kind to
them with regard to matters that anger Allaah.

Al-Muntaqa min Fataawa
al-Fawzaan (2/p. 293).

And Allaah knows best.

Her husband forces her to tell him everything that she hears from her family and other people!

My husband forces me to tell him the whole dialogue I had with my mother or brothers or anyone else. He justifies this by saying that my mother may say something that can spoil our relationship. It causes problems between us if I refuse to tell him. Shall I respond to his request?.

Praise be to Allaah.

1-

What this husband should do – if what his wife is saying
about him is true – is fear his Lord with regard to this demand that he is
making of his wife, and he should realize that he is sinning by doing this,
and that it is not permissible for his wife to obey him in this matter.

2-

We advise this husband to focus on himself rather than other
people, and to look at his own faults and correct them, and to look at his
own shortcomings and strive to perfect his own self that is inclined towards
evil. That is better for him and is more appropriate than focusing on other
people and what they say and do. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on
him) said: The greatest loser is the one who is distracted from Allaah by
himself, and even worse off is the one who is distracted from himself by
other people. Al-Fawaa’id (p. 58).

3-

He should not think badly of people and believe that he is
perfect, because not everything that people say concerns him or has to do
with him, rather it is his desire to hear people’s stories and find out
about their situations, and to rejoice at their shortcomings.

4-

It is to be hoped that this husband does not approve of his
wife telling him what her family and other people say to her, even if they
are talking about him, because by doing that she would be a gossipmonger and
one of the salaf said: A gossipmonger and a liar could cause more damage in
an hour than a practitioner of witchcraft could do in a year. So how about
if he is the one who tells her to do that, and even orders her to do so, and
threatens to punish her if she does not do it?!

al-Nawawi said, quoting from Abu Haamid al-Ghazaali (may
Allaah have mercy on them both):

The one to whom gossip comes, saying So and so said this
about you, or did that to you, should do six things:

1-
He should not believe it,
because the one who gossips is an evildoer.

2-
He should tell him not to do
that, and advise him, and condemn his action.

3-
He should hate him for the sake
of Allaah, for he is hateful before Allaah, may He be exalted, and he should
hate the one whom Allaah hates.

4-
He should not think ill of his
absent brother.

5-
He should not let what he is
told lead him to spy on others or try to find out about it.

6-
He should not approve for
himself what he told the gossipmonger not to do, so he should not transmit
the gossip and say “So and so said such and such”, in which case he would
also be a gossipmonger and would be doing that which he told someone else
not to do. End quote.

Al-Adhkaar (275).

5-

What this husband wants from his wife is nameemah (gossip)
which is a major sin. Undoubtedly passing on such gossip will lead to evil
consequences, severing of ties, resentment and enmity, and undoubtedly the
wife’s family would hate for their words to be passed on. He should
understand that gossip is not merely passing on what people say for the
purpose of causing trouble, rather it may be for the purpose of enjoyment.

Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him)
said:

What should be avoided and shunned totally is gossip which
means transmitting words from one person to another, or from one group to
another, or from one tribe to another, with the aim of causing trouble and
creating problems between them. It means disclosing that which should not be
disclosed, whether it is disliked by the one from whom it is transmitted or
the one to whom it is transmitted or a third party, and whether it is
disclosed verbally, in writing, in symbols or by gestures, and whether what
is transmitted is words or actions, and whether it refers to a fault or
shortcoming in the person from whom it is transmitted or not. A person
should keep quiet about whatever he sees of people’s situations, unless
speaking of it will bring some benefit to a Muslim or ward off some harm.

The motive in spreading gossip is either ill will towards the
person of whom one speaks or to show love to the person to whom one speaks,
or to indulge in unnecessary talk and falsehood. All of that is
haraam.

There is a great deal of evidence in the Qur’aan and Sunnah
to show that gossip is haraam, such as the verses in which Allaah says
(interpretation of the meaning):

“And (O Muhammad صلى الله
عليه وسلم) obey you not everyone Hallaaf Maheen (the one who swears
much and is a liar or is worthless).

11. A slanderer, going about with calumnies”

[al-Qalam 68:10,11]

“Woe to every slanderer and backbiter”

[al-Humazah 104:1]

It was narrated that Hudhayfah (may Allaah be pleased with
him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) said: “No gossipmonger will enter Paradise” (Agreed upon). And it
was narrated from Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Shall I not
tell you what is falsehood? It is nameemah (gossip), transmitting what
people say.” Narrated by Muslim.

Gossip is one of the things that incur the punishment in the
grave, because of the report narrated by Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased
with him), according to which the Messenger of Allaah (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) passed by two graves and said:
“They are being punished, but they
are not being punished for anything that was difficult to avoid.” Then he
said, “No. One of them used not to protect himself from his urine, and the
other used to walk around spreading malicious gossip.”

Agreed upon.

Rather backbiting and gossip are forbidden because they
involve attempts to cause trouble among people and create splits and chaos,
and fan the flames of enmity, rancour, destructive envy and hypocrisy, and
to take away love and friendship, by causing rifts and disputes and
resentment among brethren. It also involves lying, deceit, betrayal and
trickery, and making accusations against those who are innocent, and giving
in to slander and reviling and mentioning bad deeds and qualities, and
because they are a sign of cowardice, meanness and weakness; moreover those
who indulge in them commit sins which incur the wrath of Allaah and a
painful punishment.

Fataawa al-Shaykh Ibn Baaz
(3/237-239).

It was said that al-‘adhu (translated above a falsehood)
means witchcraft in the language of Quraysh, and it was said that it means
lies and fabrications.

Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Jibreen (may Allaah preserve him)
was asked:

My husband tells his family what I say, then he tells me what
they say, and that leads to many problems. I have often asked him not to do
that but he does not pay any heed. What should I do?

He replied:

This is called nameemah (malicious gossip), which means
transmitting what people say by way of stirring up trouble. As for the
warning, Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“ A slanderer, going about with calumnies”

[al-Qalam 68:10,11]. This is a
description of some of the people of Hell. And Allaah says (interpretation
of the meaning): “Woe to every slanderer and backbiter”[al-Humazah 104:1].
This refers to the gossipmonger. The Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him) said: “No gossipmonger will enter Paradise.” And
according to a report: A gossipmonger could cause more damage in an hour
than a practitioner of witchcraft could do in a year. And the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stated that “The gossipmonger
will be punished in his grave.” Undoubtedly the prohibition is more emphatic
if the gossip is among a man and his wife and relatives. He has to fear
Allaah and remember that He is always watching him, and he should keep away
from things that will incur punishment in this world or the next. He has to
avoid lying, backbiting, gossip, slander and stirring up trouble among
people. He should be honest, protect people’s honour, fear Allaah and
remember that He is always watching, and that He is stern in punishment. End
quote.

Al-Hulool al-Shar’iyyah li’l-Khilaafaat wa’l-Mushkilaat
al-Zawjiyyah wa’l-Usariyyah byShaykh ‘Abd-Allaah
ibn Jibreem (fatwa no. 42).

So the husband must stop asking his wife to do this, and if
he persists then it is not permissible for his wife to respond to his
request. By agreeing to transmit what people say, one is persisting in sin
and listening to it, but by refusing one is refraining from it and putting a
stop to it.

If the wife is afraid that it will lead to troubles between
her and her husband, there is no sin on her, if her husband insists that she
should tell him what her family says, if she tells him that they praised him
and said good things about him, and other such words that will spread love
and friendly feelings, and will extinguish the flames of fitnah and disputes
between her husband and her family.

We ask Allaah to guide your husband and bring you together in
a good manner.

And Allaah knows best.

He is hesitant to marry this girl because of her lack of religious commitment

I am a 27 years old man and I have a very strong desire to get married. This made me think of marrying any woman regardless how she looks like as long as she is religious. My cousin is very religious. She offered me to marry her daughter who is 15 years old but not as religious as I was hoping for. She prays on time, and she wore niqab after I engaged her because I asked for this. But she watches TV and she puts musical tones on her mobile phone.

They day of proposal she said to me that she does not like religious people. I talked to her about this and her view started to change. Four months after our engagement she called me and said that she told her mother that she does not love me because when I visit them I sit with her family and not with her because she still is a non-mahram to me.

She asked me if I can compensate for her not going to university; as we will marry in 3 year’s time, after secondary school and before university. I said to her: “I do not understand what you mean”, she said: “my friends and I want to go to university, know boys and love them and live the stage of university to its full. I do not think of getting married before this” I dealt with the situation considering her young and does not know what she is saying. She wants to imitate her friends because of they watch day and night love stories on TV. I tried to convince her that I can compensate.

I am very afraid of what she is saying, I am very confused, I am writing this after two hours of my last phone call with her.

Her mother and father and all her family want me to be their daughter’s husband. I was inclined to her initially. But now I fear she is not the religious woman I lived my life dreaming of marrying her. But at the same time I say to myself: “do not think bad of her, she still is young and she does not know what she says actually means”

I wish you advise me to protect my deen, knowing that my financial circumstances are very weak now, none will accept me as a husband, they accepted me because they are my family and they know me well.

Praise be to Allaah.

There is a grave error that is committed by many of those who
want to get married and who are looking for life partners, both men and
women, which often leads their plans to failure, because both parties fall
victim to stress and grief, and society bears a new burden as the result of
divorce and its consequences.

The reason for this mistake is fanstasy, whereby one of the
couple wishes that his or her partner would change in the future to become
their dream partner which they always imagined when they were younger, and
that every shortcoming is going to be replaced with perfection.

These people try to ignore the present and look to an unknown
future, shunning reality and hoping to avoid confronting it. They forget
that what is required of everyone who gets married – if they want it to
succeed – is to be realistic in their conditions and choices, and realistic
in accepting or rejecting; they should not base it on illusions or
fantasies. Rather they should see the present as it is and base their
decisions on that foundation, so that they may bear direct responsibility
after that.

The reality of this girl indicates that she is not
religiously committed, and she is not suited to you. Your Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) advised you to marry the one who
is religiously committed, and this is what you should do. Your claim that
her family have accepted you will not benefit you, because you are going to
live with the girl, not her family, and all they can do for you is to ask
you to be patient with her, regardless of how she treats you.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with
him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Women may be married for
four things: their wealth, their lineage, their beauty and their religious
commitment. Choose the one who is religiously-committed, may your hands be
rubbed with dust (i.e., may you prosper).” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5090;
Muslim, 1466.

Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
What this means is that a man who is religiously
committed and of noble character should make religion his focus in all
things, especially with regard to long-term matters. So the Prophet (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined finding a wife who is
religiously committed, which is the ultimate goal.

Fath al-Baari (9/135)

Al-San’aani (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

This hadeeth indicates that keeping company with
religiously-committed people in all things should be the priority, because
by keeping company with them one may benefit from their good attitude,
blessing and ways, especially one's wife, because she is the first one whose
religious commitment should be considered, because she is to be his close
companion, the mother of his children, the one with whom he trusts his house
and his wealth and herself.

Subul al-Salaam (1/146).

Secondly:

We advise you to seek the help of your Creator, may He be
exalted, to get married. Do not think that marrying this girl will never
cost you a great deal, because it seems that she would make many demands
even if that leads to your being poor. Do not worry if you forget about
marrying her and marry someone else, because Allaah has promised to help the
one who wants to get married in order to preserve his chastity.

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with
him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) said: “There are three who are all entitled to Allaah’s help: the
one who fights for the sake of Allaah; the mukaatab who wants to pay (the
price of his freedom); and the one who gets married seeking chastity.”
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (1655), al-Nasaa’i (3218) and Ibn Majaah (2518);
classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

Al-Mubaarakfoori (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

“the one who gets married seeking chastity” means chastity
from zina. Al-Teebi said: The reason why he said that was because these are
difficult matters that may weigh heavily upon a person and break his back,
and unless Allaah helps him he will not be able to do them. The most
difficult of them is remaining chaste, because that means suppressing the
desire that is created in him and because it is an animalistic desire that
may pull be down to the lowest level, but if he remains chaste by the help
of Allaah, he will attain the status of the angels and the highest part of
‘Illiyeen.

Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi (5/242).

To sum up:

As this girl is now, she is not suitable for you to marry
her. If she resolves to change for the better and tries hard to achieve
that, then marry her, but if she insists on carrying on as she is, and is
not sincere about changing, then leave her and look for someone else. We ask
Allaah to help you to do that which He loves and which pleases Him.

And Allaah knows best.
